There are large tour buses that will transport you from one section to another in about 10 minutes, (but who wants to spend their vacation on a bus?) We stayed in the Sunrise nearest the convention center. If you are traveling with a group, be sure that you are all booked in the same section. It’s close to the airport, safe and friendly, but if you’re a frequent visitor to this part of Mexico, here are my comparisons between the Moon Palace and Barceló resorts: Much like the Barceló, the Moon Palace is split into separate sections: Sunrise, Nizuc and the Grand. If you’re planning your first trip to Cancun/Riviera Maya, the Moon Palace is just fine. In previous years, we’ve stayed at the Barceló Tropical, the Barceló Colonial and the Barceló Palace- all three about 45 mins further south in Rivera Maya. Transportation down to the Barceló in Riviera Maya can be dreadful after a long flight- so score one. ![]() It actually took us longer to get from the front of the resort to the lobby than it took us to get to the resort from the airport. *****LOCATION: The shorter trip from the airport was certainly a plus this year. There is a decent map of the resort available online. ![]() The Nizuc is sandwiched between the two and seems to cater the most to families. The Grand is furthest south and the newest addition nearest the golf course. Much like the Barceló, the Moon Palace is split into separate sections: Sunrise, Nizuc and the Grand.
